Quick little stop in Greece ~ Expect the Unexpected 🇬🇷
After being as preventive as we could have for the past few weeks in terms of preparing to avoid getting sick in India, here we are in Greece and we are both struggling. Somehow we made it to the airport in Madrid after having “not so fun times” in the bathroom throughout the night. Maybe had to push people away to make it to the restrooms at the airport and on the plane. Honestly, a great lesson for the beginning of this journey. You can plan as much as you want, and you can be preventive, but in the end you have to accept and welcome what life has in store for you. Everything has its positive outcome. This illness is just telling us that our bodies have to get stronger and that we need to take it easy in these next 2 days before we head to India. Rather than having resistance, we choose to embrace and surrender.
Harry, our Airbnb host, picked us up from the airport and showed us around, what a great guy!
After a restful night, just eating white rice and roasted apple, we had the greatest idea of walking for a very long time searching for the Vouliagmeni Lake and it was really worth it.
We found this little cave where lots of locals of all ages gather. They all seemed to know each other and were very curious of the two obvious strangers there. Interesting communication we had with them since their English and our Greek were about the same level.
Walking back we really felt like hopping on a bus and see where it took us. Apparently you can’t buy the tickets on the bus, just on some specific machines so we got to ride the bus 3 times for free. They all said “come, come”. Every single interaction we have had with individuals from this country has been extremely nice.
While back at the apartment for dinner we put a load of laundry. Harry if you’re reading this, don’t be mad :)
As we were eating dinner, Masé said “Does that sound like the washing machine is leaking?” Mitch jumped up and ran to the bathroom to find the entire floor covered in water, the hose aimlessly spraying water around the bathroom floor. Masé quickly unplugged the washing machine to stop it from pouring out more water. LUCKILY she had attached the short washing machine cord to the extension cord outside of the bathroom…or less the water would have reached the plug. We cleaned up and rigged up the hose to prevent any further messes. Sorry Harry :)
Oh Athens... words cannot really describe the vast history that anchors this city. So impressive, so much ancient culture, a truly incredible place. We’ll leave the pictures/video to do the talking about Athens!
Quick story about the last morning in Greece. It was absolutely down pouring as we walked into town for a coffee and breakfast. No one spoke English in the entire coffee shop. We ordered a coffee, smoothie, chocolate pastry, and a piece of bread. The amount of items that came out of that kitchen “for us” was hysterical. At one point two waitresses had two coffees and three plates, none of which we had ordered. In the end, we got what we needed and had a good laugh with the workers (or so we think they were laughing with us…)
